I don't really have a "studio," so the location tends to change week to week and even day to day. This week, It was in my basement. I shared the space with my sister's artwork, and a massive supply of old VHS tapes, board games, old school projects, and art supplies - it's currently the messiest room in the house, which will (hopefully) be remedied soon.
This week, I was working on a book for school. We had to write and illustrate a children's "big book" that would help teach early literacy skills. My book was called "Darla Daring's New Dress" - you can see Darla with her bicycle and helmet up there. I had so much fun creating Darla's character; it has been a long time since I've just drawn a character or picture from my mind, because for years I was upset that I couldn't make things look "realistic". I realized this week that the way I draw can still be awesome (to me) even if Darla doesn't look like she will come right out of the page and talk to you! It was a big step for me, and now I'm organizing my colored pencils and getting ready to draw some more.
